Style editor Melissa Colgan produces, writes, and styles fashion, trend, and style-related content for
Mpls.St.Paul Magazine as well its ancillary
Shops,
Weddings, and
Home publications. In addition to scouring Twin Cities stores for the latest in fashion, style, and décor trends, Melissa also travels four times a year to New York City, twice to view the ready-to-wear shows and twice for the bi-yearly bridal markets. It is there that she gets inspiration for much of what you see in the magazine and on the
Style Parlor blog. Originally from Wisconsin, her love for fashion, beauty, interior design, and magazines manifested early on with stacks of her mother’s
Vogues and an obsession with touring model homes. As an equal opportunity lover of all forms of great design, she gets as excited about a new version of an iPod as she does for a great mid-century modern sofa or Balenciaga dress. Melissa moved to the Twin Cities in 2001 to attend the University of Minnesota’s journalism school, where she graduated in May 2006. Before starting at
Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, she interned at Mall of America, assisting in media segments, fashion shows, and the development of advertising campaigns, an opportunity that helped her get her hands in and around local retail. She currently stores her stacks of magazines and ever-expanding collection of new and vintage clothing in an Elliot Park brownstone.
