Black Forest Inn
This German institution has been open in the heart of Eat Street for more than forty years and offers an outdoor beer garden covered in ivy and open until midnight. Authentic German entrées from hasenpfeffer to schnitzel are served alongside imported beers. 1 E. 26th St., Mpls., 612-872-0812

Cafe Lurçat
With views of Loring Park and downtown, it’s no surprise that Lurçat’s patio is the epitome of the see-and-be-seen happy hour. The trendy outdoor seating complements the restaurant’s contemporary white-on-white setting and a menu featuring edgy comfort food. 1624 Harmon Place, Mpls., 612-486-5500

The Craftsman Restaurant & Bar
This Longfellow-neighborhood spot opened as a tavern in 1942. It now offers an urban patio that seats fifty patrons and is adorned with hand-carved gazebos. Mike Phillips’s locally sourced fare is stellar. 4300 E. Lake St., Mpls., 612-722-0175

Jax Café
This lush outdoor patio offers diners a little something special. Since 1954, patrons have caught their own rainbow trout in the “stream,” and even get a photograph to commemorate the catch. It’s just like fishing with dad, except you use a net and the fish is served deboned and deliciously broiled. 1928 University Ave. NE, Mpls., 612-789-7297

Kozlak’s Royal Oak Restaurant
The three-season patio offers outdoor seating for sixty diners. Plus the terrace is surrounded by intimate and extravagant gardens. 4785 Hodgson Rd., Shoreview, 651-484-8484

W.A. Frost & Co.
Frost’s garden patio, as big as its indoor dining area, reminds diners of a luxurious English-style garden. Adorned with brick pavers and flowers of every kind, it’s no wonder this space is a continuous Mpls.St.Paul Readers’ Poll winner for outdoor dining. 374 Selby Ave., St. Paul, 651-224-5715
