Flame

Flame

Hemisphere Restaurants Partners’ latest effort is a casual, family friendly modern eatery at Rosedale Center. The emphasis is fire-roasted (gas flames with some wood) meats and vegetables including rotisserie chicken and beef, but the broad menu ranges from mac and cheese to pot roast to ribs. There’s an array of side dishes and salads, a value oriented wine list, and a decent kids menu. The ambience is on the swanky side, with modern lighting, an open kitchen, a large bar, and a big flaming metal disc at the entry that throws off intense heat, but happened to be extinguished when we visited. Southdale’s theater-side restaurant row had one local entrant, the doomed Louis XIII. Flame plays that role at Rosedale, but odds are this concept has a better chance to catch fire. Sorry.

I had read some negatives comments about it, but we gave it a try and were very pleased. We sat outside - hopefully they plan on some plants to separate diners from the passers-by. We were happy with the food...the mini burgers with fries & bearnaise sauce were good, as was the ceviche. Service was very attentive and I liked that windows in the bar area are screened so people inside can get fresh air when the weather is nice.
