Indio

April 22, 2008

Freshly opened in the Uptown Row building, Indio is the bright and sassy little sister to Cafe Ena. Showing off with vibrant colors and dark woods, this upscale Mexican café is small but inviting. The bar area is tiny with a slightly awkward placement right behind the front desk, but seating flows into a long, high counter in front of the kitchen. Look for fresh Mexican with big flavors: ceviche trio, Oaxacan tamales with mole sauce, adobo marinated tuna, carne asada, and duck-filled flautas. Sample the sweet and strong signature Indio cocktail along with complimentary spicy pepitas, or cruise the tequila list, which is long and carries some weight.

Are these the same people who run El Meson?

B: Not sure if it is the same owners. Haven't been to El Meson for quite some time. Thanks for the reminder! Have you been there lately? How was the food?

Came to the restaurant for the first time Saturday night May 24th after reading a review. We choose the Nayarita dish of seared scallops over huitlacoche mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, in an agave-anco chile sauce. The scallops were superb as well as the service by James the waiter. We shall certainly comeback.

We had a great time. Like that it is a smaller place. The food was very fresh! The margaritas could be a bit bigger..especially for what you are paying for them. Probably the smallest ones I have ever seen.

The drinks and appetizers were definitely the highlight of the meal. Scallops were tsp-soaked and wept all over the ancho sauce, and the salsa didn't quite compliment the pork tenderloin. Service was great, but the room was incredibly noisy. I'd go back for happy hour. For dinner, I still prefer El Meson.
