Laredo'sThis high-profile corner location was not a happy home to Mojito or Brix, restaurants that started out super-crowded but sputtered to ignominious conclusions. Laredo’s (Why not Amarillo’s or Tulsa’s?) is a production of the folks who run McCoy’s next door (as was Brix) and offers up a Tex-Mex menu with lots of signature alcoholic beverages. It’s way more interesting than Chili’s but probably not compelling enough to empty out Bar Abilene. The room has been nicely remodeled but isn’t designed to appeal to authenticity freaks as much as folks looking for a decent meal of southwestern fare in attractive yuppie environs. The menu is what you’d expect: fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, burgers, salads, guac, etc. Bacon-wrapped meat loaf stuffed with a chile relleno presents an interesting cross-cultural conundrum as does green chile mac and cheese, a nice idea if they actually put any chiles in. Nonetheless, it’s an attractive package, and if Laredo’s is home to tumbleweeds by fall, we’ll know the building is cursed. 4629 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, 952-698-2749 Comments:By hmw on June 1, 2008 at 11:45 am:Ate at Laredo's this weekend...and was the worst meal I and my dining partners have had in memory. little to no meat in any of the entrees, and the steak fajitas were tough, flavorless and dry. Perhaps we should have anticipated this, as when we sat down our waitress described the food as "Minnesota Mexican". I can not imagine this restauratnt will last any longer than the others did... By disappointed big time on June 1, 2008 at 7:51 pm:Larendo is sooooo very boring, even eating outside did not help the food. I would love for this place to make it, we live in the neighborhood, but we aren't going back! By JoAnn Kraft on June 2, 2008 at 12:17 am:Many indications that this company just doesn't get it. They don't answer their phone, no reservations except 5 and 9:30, happy hour margaritas with no discernable tequila, flippant and uncaring servers, poor food quality and no desire to correct their errors when they are brought to their attention. In essence...the food is terrible, the management is terrible and the service is poor. By Mo on June 2, 2008 at 12:15 pm:I think the decor is nice, and it has a out door patio, which I am always looking for. The food isn't so great, but it wasn't terrible either. The service was excellent. I was disappointed that the margarita's were made with bottled mix though. By Pam on June 16, 2008 at 7:23 am:I went to Laredo's with a large group that arrived at various times a few weeks ago. The service was great and I loved the chips in the metal buckets. My veggies quesadilla however left much to be desired. I think I could do better at home. I was disappointed by the food but likely would go back for the beer and chips as it's a great location and again...the service was great for a large casual group in the bar. By Settle Down on June 26, 2008 at 3:42 pm:Casual Tex-West food. Good Margs and Great Prices. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back and hang out again. (The Wings were some of the best I've ever had!!!) By SL on July 1, 2008 at 9:38 am:Gave it a try over lunch last week....the patio was great, along with the Mango Margarita, but that's where my praise ends... Ordered the BBQ Shrimp Quesadillas and they delivered the plain chicken ones instead. Because of time contraints, I gave them a try, but was severely disappointed by their blandness. Didn't even finish half of it, and while they apologized for the mix up, they did made no attempt to rectify the situation by crediting the bill. I most likely won't be going back. By DD on July 1, 2008 at 9:38 am:Fun atmosphere! We sat at the bar and had a blast with our bartender, John(I think?)! He really new alot about the menu and was very personable! Have to agree about the enchiladas- no meat just tortilla! The mexiskins are awesome! It is not fine dining and shouldn't be compared to it. Great for people who want to relax and have fun. By Kathy on July 2, 2008 at 3:01 am:We stopped after work and sat down outside, we were quickly put in our place by a waitress who told us to check in - inside next time.(there was no wait and lots of open tables)It was happy hour and we ordered a margarita and guacamole w/chips, which were OK. Then we ordered a taco, which was very un- appealing and bland. The weather was great and we enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere. By ted on June 24, 2008 at 7:41 am:Last night I ordered a chicken burrito and it came out quickly but it has barely any chicken in it at all. I right away thought I would never go back but I thought I would save a fellow burrito lover and call to ask why they skimped the chicken in my order. Jenny the manager mentioned that they really don't put much chicken in it so I asked why it didn't say that on the menu? She said that is just they way it is. I told her I worked in the business for 6 years and would never tell that to a customer. I said I would never be back and I won't. SO I got this: the menu lies, they don't care and the food sucks.
