Wally’s Roast Beef shows just how far you can go on the great food/quick service mantra. Founded in 1969 and still going strong, the restaurant offers roast beef the same way as when it started—USDA choice beef is rubbed with a bevy of spices, slow-roasted to tender perfection, sliced, and then scooped into a toasted Kaiser roll before your eyes. You can order it with a side of au jus, but with beef this good you don’t really need it. As good as the beef is, perhaps the best part is the price: $3.39 (there is an extra charge for cheese, bacon, or jus). Home-cooked food at fast-food prices. What’s not to like?
