Going to the remodeled Moose & Sadie’s Café and Coffee is a lot like visiting a friend you haven’t seen for a while. Things may be different, but you don’t miss a beat when you’re together again. Peter Kirihara still owns the coffeehouse, but he’s invited Susan Muskat, formerly an owner of Birchwood Café, to create a kitchen producing fresh, delicious foodstuffs. Mornings brim with great coffee, but they’re now enhanced by freshly baked, yeasty sweet rolls and scones. Breakfast features specials such as eggs Benedict—as well as a quiche of the day—and a panoply of menu items, including pancakes and organic eggs. Lunch includes two homemade soups—such as sweet and spicy squash and coconut milk curry—and salad, sandwich, and pizza specials. Staple menu items include the BLT with thick-cut bacon served on homemade bread, served alongside homemade refrigerator pickles. Kirihara, his parents, and Muskat can all be seen bustling around the restaurant—and their loving hands-on ownership can be tasted in every bite.
