On the Tuesday I visited, Satay 2 Go’s three tables were occupied and a line of diners was strung around the counter waiting to order. Owner Corrine Tan’s husband, Leong—who had stopped by for a bite—ended up lending a hand and working through his own lunch hour. In fact, he delivered the dishes—hailing from Chinese, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese, and even Indian lands—directly from skillet to table. Chicken gyoza and fresh spring rolls—stuffed with turmeric-flavored chicken—arrived first, the latter accompanied by a spicy peanut sauce. A tasty bowl of lo mee, a Chinese comfort food made with udon noodles, shrimp, chicken, and vegetables, hit the spot, and so did the chicken satay. There’s no wine or beer, but S2G serves a wide variety of beverages—including green-tea soda and white guava juice—as well as a nice selection of Asian bakery items such as coconut-raisin rolls and red bean buns. No dish tops $8, and the fare is so tasty that I suspect many more busy shifts are in store for the Tans.
