Have the winter blues caused you to settle in like a cat next to the radiator? Can’t seem to rouse yourself (or the funds) for a tropical getaway? Perhaps you’ve been on an island holiday and returned to bland reality? Or maybe you’re just longing for some good food, dub riddims, and a Ting. No matter, Jamaica Jamaica is the place for you. It has a homey island atmosphere, a reggae soundtrack, brightly colored tablecloths, and really tasty, inexpensive fare, such as the succulent jerk pork ($8.99) flavored with allspice, cinnamon, and habañero peppers. Milder, but just as satisfying, are the curries: chicken, tofu, and goat, to name a few ($9.99–$12.99). There’s whole red snapper (lookin’ back at you) and oxtail. Everything is served with a choice of rice and vegetables or red peas, but a side of the fried dumplings is well worth the three bones. Jamaica Jamaica also has Jamaican ginger beer, the grapefruit soda Ting, and the famous Blue Mountain coffee. The one blues that can’t be salved is the Monday blues, cuz Jamaica Jamaica is closed.
