Adele’s Frozen Custard

Adele's Frozen Custard

July 2007

There is the old adage about selling ice cubes to Eskimos, and there could be a corollary regarding ice cream and Minnesotans, except while Minnesota gets colder than Nome in January, it gets as hot as Havana in summer. This is not to suggest that you shouldn’t eat ice cream in the winter—or avoid gin-and-tonics in January, for that matter—but there does seem to be a high season. Like now. Now is a great time to take a drive or stroll, enjoy the fleeting Minnesota summer, and stop by Adele’s Frozen Custard near Lake Minnetonka. Go inside or (you true Americans, you) drive up and be rewarded with some of the creamiest, velvety custard ice cream known to man. There are fresh-made flavors, such as toffee/almond, coconut cream, or my favorite, Drumstick (not poultry), along with a choice of cone. There’s even a calendar of upcoming flavors. All that for less than $5. Trust me, you will be the envy of every passerby. That’s Minnesota nice.
