Another glorious Minnesota summer has come and gone. The leaves are falling, and before you know it, the dark cloak of winter will drape us all in a pristine white frock. Why not stave off the wolves with some primordial rituals such as grilling a few brats before the Vikings game? Fall is a great time to barbecue—there are no bugs and the chill in the air tames the flames and heat coming off the Weber, which conversely, can do double duty as a hand-warmer if your beer is really cold. If that doesn’t convince you to take the kitchen outdoors, then this will: Clancey’s grinds terrific brats that are not only made from 100 percent local pork from Hidden Streams Farm in Elgin, Minnesota, but at $7.90 per pound, they are cheaper than popcorn at the movies. And if it’s Saturday, they may be grilling in front of the store as you arrive. While there, ask owner Kristin Tombers if you can sample some delightful cured meats and sausages. And be sure to pick up some Boejte’s mustard before you head home.
