20.21

Editor's Choice
$$$$ | Pan-Asian/Pan-Asian

As iconic as the Walker is, it deserves a restaurant like 20.21. Wolfgang Puck's fine-dining venture is one of the best restaurants in town, with a nearly faultless menu of Puckian classics. The service at this Cal-Asian temple is just as good. All the dishes are suitable for sharing. Don't skip the whole sea bass or Cantonese-style duck. Menu brunch Su.

Excellent! A true gem in the Twin Cities' culinary scene. Delicious Asian influenced entrees, especially seafood, and desserts that captivate the eyes as much as they do to the stomach.

It requires a level of complexity that cannot be replicated at home-which is why you can, and will, return again and again to 20.21. It is truly high art.

They offer up imaginative, expertly prepared multiculti dishes boasting bright flavors and looks as striking as any Joan Mitchell canvas hanging in the galleries below. Outsize portions encourage sharing, and courses often are plated at the table. The food is a distinct pleasure.

Was it the most fabulous meal I have ever had? Well, no. But did it end up being impressive and interesting to our guests from Japan? I like to think so!

20.21, the highly anticipated Wolfgang Puck restaurant in the Walker Art Center, is good enough. Just barely. It was supposed to be great, a big-name, big-splash restaurant of national caliber, a big fish, or, the big fish, in our small pond. It's not even close.

We would make do, figure it out, and compromise that we weren't all going to eat exactly what we had ordered in the quantity that we had wanted to.
