We Got Served

I don't think I can even put into words how good these eggs benedict were. My past few experiences have been fairly disappointing, so I think that made these taste even better to me. The eggs were poached so beautifully, they were almost a work of art.

The Cobb salad really shines at Cafe Barbette. The mixed greens went very well with all of the ingredients, which were excellent in their own right. The dressing was perfectly placed on each of the leaves, ever present but not overpowering.

Dinner is similarly rewarding. A squash-tomato stew, rounded out with couscous and plenty of fresh cilantro and mint, was a vegan's dream dish.

I think that, for me, Barbette is more of a snack-y, brunch type of place than somewhere I want to come spend a lot of money on dinner. The salads/mains are just never as good as I want them to be.

"Funky", "fantastically bohemian" quarters go hand in hand with the "killer" frites and other "wonderful" selections at this Uptown French bistro servicing a "diverse" clientele made up of "middle-aged folks" and those with "body piercings"; backers say you can bet there's "always a good buzz" going on.

But some factors are virtually guaranteed to make a convivial evening. Chic sophistication is good, but you don't want a place that's imposing or uptight.

Late Night Dining

How do they serve such unusual, such excellent wines for such low prices? How do they manage to have some of the best fries in town, and also such estimable fresh oysters? How do they do it for such good prices in a place that is so conveniently open from the wee early hours of the morning to 1:00 a.m. every night?

Barbette serves up French cuisine amidst its atmospheric setting of glass lamp fixtures and café-style tables. Most of the wines are selected from families who've made wine-making their craft and the selections have an emphasis on natural processing. Plus, there's cheap PBR for your non-grape-loving pals.

Barbette has received 'Best Of's' from local press for its late night dining, desserts, wine list, reasonable fare, and, of course, those French fries that accompany the steak frites. Barbette uses local and organic ingredients as much as possible, presenting beautiful food in a casual, eclectic, bistro atmosphere. Says Star Tribune reviewer Rick Nelson: "I reveled in a meal that tasted far more expensive than the final tab suggested.”
Barbette has several food & wine events throughout the year, as well as late night live music on Mondays, and a 4-5 course Prix Fixe dinner every Monday evening for $32. Our sidewalk café is open when weather permits. The 7th Annual Bastille Day Block Party will take place at Barbette on Sunday, July 12th, 2009.
Tasting menus are available upon request with prior notice. Please alert your server to any dietary needs or desires you might have; we are happy to accommodate when possible.
Barbette is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night dining. 8am-1am Sunday-Thursday and 8am-2am Friday and Saturday. Happy Hours 3-6 pm Monday - Friday and 10pm-close Sunday - Thursday.
