The food is refreshingly honest. Roasted chicken, grilled steak and braised pork are celebrated and refined to their best possible outcomes. Nothing froufou here, no Frank Gehry-inspired compositions, no whacked-out ingredient combinations, just tried-and-true cooking that looks easy but in reality is just the opposite.

Eden Prairie is a suburb that beholds a slice of Italy---Campiello brings rustic contemporary Italian food to the business-lunch world. Think upscale yet casual. And let the food speak for itself: crispy thin-crust pizza baked in an oak-fired oven and rotisserie chicken, not to mention dishes like the grilled pork tenderloin with pear compote and Gorgonzola with roasted vegetables and pan-fried potatoes.

This was a very good eggplant parm, the kind you eat with a fork and knife, not at all tempted to stuff it into a hoagie bun for a quick New York treat. J.S. had the Fusilli with Seared Sea Scallops, Pesto and Cherry Tomatoes which was generously portioned and smelled incredible.

It "feels like Tuscany" when you're in this "consistent" Eden Prairie Italian purveying reliably "good" dishes that are admired even more when considering the "high-volume" traffic; the "great value" and "friendly" service team up to keep folks "coming back."

Campiello is another of Minnesota's great sleeper pizzas. If the competition in the Neapolitan pizza wars wasn't so fierce, the world would probably beat a path to Campiello's door. But the competition is fierce, and thus Campiello is left as a secret joy to the lucky few smart enough to treasure it. The oak-fired pizzas have crusts with the perfect whiff of wood smoke to them, and the toppings range from the classic to the inventive (but not dumb) territory.

Campiello is the most upscale restaurant on this list, but it's one of the few food-focused restaurants in town that are gladly and willingly able to adapt its menu staples into simple food that kids will eat. Pizza, pasta, killer calamari, simple hanger steak, or salmon. The short ribs remain an iconic dish that adventurous kids and all adults will enjoy.

It might be more fair to describe this brunch item as bread pudding made from a single, gargantuan slice off a buttery loaf (brioche, perhaps?), which the kitchen staff must soak in custard--no trace of egg whites or skim milk, just yolks and cream and vanilla and a little orange zest to keep things lively.
