"Everything a steakhouse ought to be", this decidedly "upscale" chain lures "buttoned-down" "power" players with "flavorful", "artfully presented" chops; the "low-lit, dark-wood" digs and "attentive" service are "ideal for a special occasion or a business dinner", and even though the bill can be "way expensive", "you get what you pay for" here.

The waiter promised us that the scallops were like little sugar cubes and he was right the dish was absolutely perfect. The waiter also suggested that we might want some bread to sop up the remaining sauce and I jumped at the offer not caring that this was not the kind of restaurant where one does that.

The clubby atmosphere (complete with stoic portraits of famous Minnesotans like Hubert Humphrey) is intended to evoke smoky backroom political dealings, but the Armani-suited crowd smacks of recent millions.

The meat was rich, thunderously beefy, and sweet; the brioche bun was the ideal complement, while the savory French fries, graced with truffle-oil and gran padano cheese, were exceptional. Each bite of the burger was more astonishing than the last. It was as good as great carpaccio, as good as great steak tartare: lush as a berry, profound as an exceptional Barolo.

Now here is New England clam chowder-clam-chocked, with hand-cubed russet potatoes and chunks of salty bacon in a lovely milk base that's authentically thickened with pounded crackers, not sullied with cornstarch or floury roux. Honest-to-God Yankee good.
