Gigantour featuring Megadeth
With a name like Megadeth, you better be in the midst of a cross-country Gigantour. (Sponsored, fittingly, by Hot Topic, the store of choice for angst-ridden teens.) It’s hard to believe the thrash metal band has been around for nearly three decades, but oddly enough, they’re practically a nostalgia act now. After breaking up a few years back, the semi-original lineup reunited and released United Abominations. Also playing: In Flames, Children of Bodom, Job for a Cowboy, and High On Fire. |

Fitting that the first family of Minnesota jazz led by the first matriarch of musical Minnesota families—Jeanne Arland Peterson—performs at the Dakota for a special Mother’s Day brunch. The Kills
American Alison Mosshart and Brit Jamie Hince met (innocently) in a hotel, struck up a songwriting partnership, and spent a lot of money mailing tapes across the Atlantic before Mosshart moved to London. After five years and three studio albums, The Kills released Midnight Boom—and boom it did. Now one of the hottest bands on the Indie circuit, the band is on heavy rotation on The Current, and the single “Sour Cherry” received Indie rock’s ultimate prize—a spot as the background music of a Gossip Girl promo. |

To celebrate, the State Capitol is throwing a birthday bash, complete with costumed historic characters, art activities, live music, reproductions of the state constitution, and visits to the roof of the capitol to see the illustrious golden horses.
