For John C. Weber, what started as a youthful passion for collecting baseball cards soon morphed into the much more adult pursuit of Japanese art and artifacts. The result is what is believed to be the most complete collection of Japanese art outside of the archipelago. Weber’s collection represents Japanese history from twelfth through twentieth centuries and consists of seventy-five pieces, including hanging scrolls, lacquer ware, ceramics, and standing screens. The showing at the Minneapolis Institute of Art marks the first time all of Weber’s pieces have been presented together.
