Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company

When: Oct. 13–Nov. 4

Where: 1978 Ford Pkwy., St. Paul, 651-647-4315

What do you get when you cross a court-appointed Jewish lawyer with a skinhead accused of a hate crime? The answer: Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company’s production of Cherry Docs, an explosive play that explores and challenges preconceived notions of racism and personal politics.

Park Square Theatre
When: Oct. 19–Nov. 11
Where: 20 W. 7th Place, St. Paul, 651-291-7005
Park Square Theatre’s Agnes of God is about a young nun who gives birth to a baby, yet claims she has no memory of how it happened or of the infanticide of which she’s accused. Linda Kelsey stars.

Jungle Theater

When: Sept. 7–Oct. 14

Where: 2951 Lyndale Ave. S., Mpls., 612-822-7063

Jungle Theater artistic director Bain Boehlke has never been one to shy away from crunchy scripts. This fall, in Speed–the-Plow, he brings us David Mamet’s invective-filled vision of Hollywood. Mamet’s staccato dialogue is both infamous and funny, and Boehlke’s productions are known for getting the details just right.

Guthrie Theater

When: King Lear and The Seagull, Oct. 5–14; The Pillowman, Sept. 20–Oct. 14; The Home Place, Sept. 22–Nov. 5; Jane Eyre, Sept. 14–Nov. 10

Where: 218 S. 2nd St., Mpls., 612-377-2224

Ah, the Guthrie. The colossus hosts a truly fabulous visit this fall when London’s Royal Shakespeare Company performs King Lear in rep with The Seagull, both featuring Sir Ian McKellen; Frank Theatre does the creepy, crawly thriller, The Pillowman; and for the obligatory dose of Irish theater, Joe Dowling directs Brian Friel’s latest play, The Home Place, which runs in rep with playwright Alan Stanford’s adaptation of Jane Eyre.

Theatre de la Jeune Lune

When: Oct. 13–Nov. 25

Where: 105 N. 1st St., Mpls., 612-333-6200

Theatre de la Jeune Lune and Southern California’s La Jolla Playhouse have teamed up for the Loonies’ playful adaptation of Marivaux’s La Fausse Suivante, or The Deception.

Pillsbury House Theatre
When: Oct. 5–Nov. 3
Where: 1201 37th Ave. N., Mpls., 612-302-3400
Marion McClinton, a Tony–nominated director and longtime Penumbra Theatre company member, brings Home to the Pillsbury House Theatre. Samm-Art Williams’s lyrical play was nominated for a Tony award and is considered a classic of the African American theater canon.

Mixed Blood Theatre
When: Two Queens on Castle, Sept. 21–Oct. 7; The Clean House, Oct. 19–Nov. 18
Where: Music Box Theatre, 1411 Nicollet Ave., Mpls.; Mixed Blood Theatre, 1501 S. 4th St., Mpls., 612-338-0937
Mixed Blood Theatre’s upcoming season is all about the ladies. Jevetta Steele’s Two Queens One Castle, a parable set to music, is being remounted at the Music Box Theatre. Sarah Ruhl’s Pulitzer Prize finalist, The Clean House, is also a hot ticket.

Burning House Group
When: Oct. 11–28
Where: Minneapolis Theatre Garage, 711 Franklin Ave. W., Mpls., 612-623-9396
Burning House Group returns with another season of lively shows, including Three Parts Dead, a Halloween-inspired romp created for the company members by local playwright Alan Berks. The run is short, so get thee to the Minneapolis Theatre Garage.
