The Short List: Jason DeRusha

Jason DeRusha

May 2008

In Twin Cities blogging circles, WCCO–TV reporter Jason DeRusha is one of the “usual suspects,” and we mean that in a good way. Lord knows how he finds time for his day job, what with his avid reading and commenting on so many other blogs and websites. Being hip to this burgeoning community, we asked DeRusha for his favorites.

Top Favorite 5 websites:

1. http://mediation.tumblr.com
If there’s one blog that tells you everything interesting online and in town, Taylor Carik’s Mediation is the place to be.

2. mnspeak.com
The website I love to hate to love. The conversation that flows from Twin Citians’ posts is funny, mean, sarcastic, and at its best, illuminating.

3. blog.twitter.com
My newest obsession. Twitter is like an instant message system, except you share your one- or two-line thoughts with all the people who “follow you.” It’s great for getting a group of friends together for a spontaneous drink; I use it when I need input on stories.

4. http://reader.google.com
Is it lame to include Google Reader? I’m there all the time. It’s where I keep track of all sorts of local blogs (including that boring Lambert blog at mspmag. com). According to Reader, of my 118 subscriptions, over the last thirty days I read 5,185 items.

5. http://thedeets.com
Ed Kohler has done a great job finding interesting local topics. He criticizes local media. He points out a crime of the week. He even live-blogged me on WCCO Radio.

** http://www.wcco.com/jasonblog Can I include my own blog? [We knew he’d get to this.] Now that my blog has open commenting, I’m there a lot to make sure no one’s calling me an idiot. OK, that can’t really count.
