The Scandinavian influences in the guest suite add to the overall European feeling of this home. Major remodeling created a seamless suite that includes a seating area, bathroom, walk-in closet, and sleeping area—as well as lovely views of the lake. The décor takes direction from the more regal Gustavian style of Swedish interiors, especially in the embroidery details, handpainted treatments on furniture, and carefully chosen antiques and artwork. All give the room detail and polish without feeling cluttered. The soothing palette (bone, sand, desert gold, wheat, pale blues) helps create an airy, calming retreat.

The design team studied English Cotswold cottage architecture and décor when planning the living room. The effect feels as though you have walked into an English manor and is perfectly appropriate for the home. The size of the room allows for plenty of seating, and the team made great use of niches for benches as well as a game table in a cozy corner. With a keen eye, the team chose a variety of fabrics in several patterns, textures, and materials in shades of amber, chocolate, and pear, creating warmth and vibrancy. The fabrics, in conjunction with the furniture pieces selected, add to the overall aged and collected look of the space.

The living room was also selected Overall Favorite Room, so it’s no surprise that tour guests also fell in love with the window treatments. Interestingly, the Schumacher fabric was one of the first elements the designers chose when creating this space. The drapery panels are made from a traditional English floral pattern set against chocolate brown. The simple panels lightly puddle on the floor and dress the narrow leaded glass windows and French doors with little fanfare. The look is elegant without being overly formal.

The original carriage house was transformed into a cottage with an identity of its own that honors the connection to the main house. The less formal cottage has a fairly open floor plan and lots of windows. The designers wanted to keep the view unobstructed—but didn’t want the windows to seem like big black squares at night. Their solution was to frame all the windows with a simple design inspired by the drop of a tablecloth corner. They used the same neutral face fabric in all of the rooms for cohesiveness, but selected different lining fabrics to complement each room. The effect is casual, simple, and charming.
