Belinda Jensen

It’s no surprise that the earthy Jensen surrounds herself at home with a warm palette of golds, reds, and honey tones. Adding texture and personality are a variety of fabrics and materials, including leather, linen, pottery, live plants, and a handful of roosters and bird sculptures. The kitchen overlooks “Belle’s” garden, where she plants about fifteen perennials a year.

We invite her into our home every day, so we asked KARE–TV’s chief meteorologist Belinda Jensen to return the favor and share a slice of the home she shares with her husband, David, three-and-a-half-year-old son, Tanner, and Bernese mountain dog, Kula. This multimedia meteorologist lives a whirlwind life—but her home is as grounded as she is. “It’s never perfectly clean,” says Jensen. And adds, “We’ve been here six years and we’ve only painted four rooms.” She laughs that the others are still the off-white that the builder applied. The busy working mom not only delivers our weather reports on the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts (Monday through Thursday), she coanchors the Saturday morning news show and provides weather reports (from her home office) during morning drive for both Cities 97 and K102. She also co-reports (with Bobby, no relation, Jensen) a weekly Grow with KARE segment as well as stories for Minnesota Bound and a handful of Extra reports annually. We can see why home is her calm in the storm.

Jensen says there are two types of entertainers: “those who give parties, and those who go to parties. I give parties.” Her home’s open floor plan, which spills into her lovely backyard, is inviting and centers around the kitchen. “I love to cook and do as much as I can based on time, schedule, and ingredients.”

Location. Location. Location
Jensen’s home is an easy shot to and from KARE along Highway 169. “Unless there’s a storm, my schedule allows me to be home every night to put Tanner to bed before I have to be back at the station to prep for the ten o’clock show.”

“Besides the kitchen, Tanner’s room is one of only a few rooms we’ve really decorated,” says Jensen. “The surfer/Hawaiian theme started with some cute bedding I found at Pottery Barn Kids,“ she says. “And we built from there,” including photos of “Mom” surfing in Hawaii and “Dad” windsurfing on Lake Calhoun. The theme also makes it easy for his grandparents to add to the fun with gifts from their travels.
