Essay
I believe thus far in my life, being a model is something I need to achieve. Apart from my physical attributes and ability to stand out, my determination to accomplish what I started is driving me toward modeling. Since high school, I have had interest in modeling, but knowing that the entertainment industry is not a guarantee, I went on to college and minimized the modeling potion of my life. I am a recent college graduate, and I work for myself (not an easy task). My interest in modeling did not subside during the years I was in school; it increased, and I believe it is time for me to take on another challenging task.
I say challenging because when I pick up a magazine in Minnesota, I barely find a black female that is the focus of attention in the fashion spreads. Living in Minnesota, I know the majority of the working models are Caucasian, something I have to deal with, especially given that my look is not very westernize. But it is a challenge I believe will be exciting for me as well as those representing me.
I have what it takes to be a real model because my look can be transformed and customized to accommodate any brand or market. I have the ability to adjust to any situation. The need for a black model (not mixed model) to be represented in the Minnesota is important. I understand the disappointments that are bound to come my way, but with my personality and hardships I have experienced in my personal life, there is nothing I cannot take on.
“Tell me, and I'll forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I'll understand.” ~ Native American Proverb
I am challenging the Minnesota market and MSP magazine to take on a client who they are not use to seeing when they turn the pages of their magazines. Someone who is not going to forget when you tell her, remember when you show her, and prosper when you involve her.
