Five Looks for Fall

From intricate buns and glamorous ponytails to bold brows, gray eyeshadow, and '80s-style pops of color, fall's beauty trends are inspired by the structural fashions and color palette of the season.

Up In Smoke

Gray is the new black when it comes to the smoky eye. Instead of heavily kohl-rimmed peepers, makeup artists at Michael Kors and Zac Posen opted for a diffused look by blending different shades of gray and, at times, leaving out eyeliner for a lighter look.

Club Kid Brights

When this season’s runway makeup wasn’t gray, it evoked the bawdy excess of ’80s club life. Brightly painted lips and sweeps of vibrant eyeshadows were seen on the runways at Nicole Miller and Marc Jacobs.

Hot Buns

Usually associated with a prim and proper aesthetic, this season’s updos are anything but. Incorporating braids, twists, and adornments, the buns at Carolina Herrera and Rodarte felt more haphazard than polished.

Perky Ponys

Far from sporty, the ponytail emerged this season as a sleek and glamorous look for evening on the runway at J. Mendel, and as a less structured option for day at Lela Rose.

Big Brows

For the past few seasons, the brow has been making a comeback. A strong, full brow was paired with minimal makeup at Herve Leger and BCBG Max Azria. Make yours stand out by dusting them with brow powder, then brushing them straight upward.
