Work that Wardrobe! Fifteen Pieces Create Six Office Looks
Shops 2010
By Melissa Colgan
The challenge? To make six different
outfits using only 15 items of clothing and
accessories. We started with a few basics, some of which you might already have in your closet—a great pair of black slacks, a perfect
white blouse, and classic Mary Janes. Then we
added a few trend-forward pieces. The result? We’ve got you covered for the office,
a night out, the weekend, and more.

Look 1: Office Proper
1 + 4 + 8 + 9 + 11 + 15 = Office Proper
Floral appliqués on a classic cropped jacket, a subtle laser-cut butterfly in the neck of a plain black sweater, a patent leather purse with leaf ornamentation—the delight is in the details of this nine-to-five look.

Look 2: Workday Chic
1 + 7 + 10 + 12 + 14 = Workday Chic
Flats and a relaxed skirt make for well-groomed comfort, while a string of pearls and black thick-rimmed glasses add a dash of polish.

Look 3: Night-Out Casual
3 + 5 + 6 + 10 + 14 = Night-Out Casual
An elegant blouse and shiny flats add refinement to a buttery leather jacket and skinny jeans. We think it’s the perfect look for a casual dinner with your honey or girlfriends.

Look 4: Evening Minimalist
3 + 8 + 11 + 12 + 13 = Evening Minimalist
For a more dressed-up after-hours look, we kept the lovely white blouse and paired it with black heels, black pants, and a string of pearls.

Look 5: Weekend Bohemian
2 + 5 + 6 + 10 + 15 = Weekend Bohemian
Animal prints are big for fall. We love this light-as-air leopard-print blouse when paired with subdued skinny jeans and flats. The leather vest (the arms zip off the jacket!) and studded bangles give the look some heft.

Look 6: Day-to-Night Versatility
2 + 4 + 7 + 9 + 11 = Day-to-Night Versatility
The tiered skirt, cropped jacket, and Mary Jane heels are office proper, but remove the jacket and add a feisty leather bag to take the look from boardroom to happy hour.
