Stop + Shop
Shopping is plentiful in Red Wing, but start at the fully restored Red Wing Pottery. Watch potters at work in the studio, then visit the bevy of adjacent stores that specialize in antiques, gifts, dinnerware, and, of course, Red Wing pottery. 1920 Old W. Main St., 651-388-3562

For higher-end interior furnishings and fresh flower arrangements, check out Inspired Home & Flower Studio, owned by Brian Schneider and Tom Quanrud. Schneider, an interior designer, appreciates fine and beautiful objects and has filled the shop with many such finds. Schneider and Quanrud also own Lily’s Coffee House next door. 415 W. 3rd St., 651-388-8743

Vestiges, Ltd., in The St. James Hotel shopping court, offers a large sampling of traditional fashions, sleepwear, robes, and accessories. The clothing trends toward the more mature, with Vera Bradley handbags, Tummy Tuck jeans, stonewashed twill pants from French Dressing, lacy knits from Curio and Weavz, and sweaters by Design Options and Marisa Christina. 406 Main St., 651-385-0548

Aptly named for the Midwestern– adopted Norwegian exclamation of sensory overload, the Uffda Shop brims with brightly colored gifts of Scandinavian origin. Most of the items, including linens by Marimekko, are not found elsewhere locally. Plus, there are sweaters, books, cookware, decorative items, and gag gifts. 202 Bush St., 651-388-8436

Moments on Main is one of Red Wing’s don’t-misses. Owner Shannan Harris, who is also an interior designer, changes the merchandise seasonally. Find Purseket organizers, retro needlepoint pillows and glassware by Catstudio, and home and body fragrances and soaps from The Good Home Company, Lollia, and Mangiacotti Florals. 329 Main St., 651-388-2343

Food + Drink
Tucked inside a brick building rumored to have housed a speakeasy at one time is Liberty’s Restaurant & Lounge, offering a menu that includes hamburgers, steaks, and ribs, plus soups, salads, and pizzas. The structure has been fully restored to its 1870s Victorian charm, and photographs and memorabilia cover the walls, paying homage to the history of Red Wing. 303 W. 3rd St., 651-388-8877

Mix and match the hot and cold gourmet hors d’oeuvres at Oar d’oeuvre, and pair them with wine flights or one of Rush River’s microbrews. The seasonally changing menu also offers soups, salads, sandwiches, entrées, and desserts. In summer, dine on the beautifully landscaped patio that overlooks a waterfall. 433 Main St., 651-388-2155

Where to Stay
Historic charm and modern amenities meet at St. James Hotel, Red Wing’s downtown landmark. The hotel’s Victorian interior, intimate guest rooms, and two full-service restaurants have an understated elegance, perfect for a relaxing weekend. Reminiscent of an old wine cellar, The Port, which has received the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for the past six years, serves steak and seafood, while Veranda is the spot for a quick breakfast or lunch before you head out to shop. $149–$209 for a standard room, $199–$259 for a Deluxe Whirlpool Room. 406 Main St., 800-252-1875

Beauty Fix
What better reason to skip town for the weekend than for some serious beautifying? After the noninvasive cosmetic procedures at Refined Skin, you’ll return to the city looking rested, relaxed, and maybe even a little younger. Located in the St. James Hotel shopping court, this “medispa” provides complete skin and body care, including Fotona laser services, Vitalize chemical peels, and Botox and Juvéderm, as well as facials and massages. 406 Main St., 651-388-9855

For full-body pampering, head to Body Kneads Massage & Wellness. Services include massage therapy, acupuncture, reflexology, and facials. Book an appointment for reiki, a treatment that “balances the body’s physical, spiritual, and emotional energy fields” through the placement of the practitioner’s hands. If your tastes are more conventional, try a Swedish massage, which releases physical tension and increases mental relaxation. 316 Bush St., 651-267-0118
