Code Red for Fall
Much like their unanimous distaste for the outdated stripey highlights, Twin Cities stylists are once again in agreement on where hair color is headed when the sun begins to fade: red, red, and redder. Taking a cue from the changing leaves, stylists expect clients to add merlot and auburn tones to deepen and darken what was previously lightened for summer.
“We will definitely be seeing red—dimensional lowlights, warm blondes will add some deeper auburn pieces, and strawberry blondes will go darker,” Aase says. “No one will be going solid red, but rather mixing it into other colors.”
Whether you see yourself in shades of scarlet or not, Kemp maintains that clients in Minnesota should stick with what suits their lifestyle. “In New York City they don’t really live like we do in Minnesota, where we’re on the bike path and outdoors a lot,” he says. “You want something that goes along with your lifestyle, and that might mean the latest color trend or it might mean something lower-maintenance because we’re more casual in Minnesota.”
