Spotting the best looks for blondes, brunettes, and redheads doesn’t require a lot of research. In fact, Denny Kemp, owner of Denny Kemp Salon in Minneapolis, suggests looking no further than your stylist’s waiting area. “When my clients come in for appointments, they practically run for US magazine to see what celebrities are wearing and how they’re doing their hair,” he says.

Stylists themselves look to Hollywood to spot the latest trends, keep up with current fads, and create new styles. “When I saw Sienna Miller in Alfie, it made me excited about doing that kind of blonde. It was very reminiscent of the '60s—sexy and carefree—and people bond with that kind of thing,” Kemp says.

Jessica Simpson and Goldie Hawn are also popular blonde bombshells, with Reese Witherspoon the hands-down blonde barometer. “Anything Reese does with her hair is hugely influential,” says Mi Shaun Schmidt-Schwab, owner of the Beauty Room in Minneapolis.

When it comes to redheads, Julianne Moore and the decidedly un-desperate Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives get the most mentions. “Julianne Moore’s red hair is perfect with her skin tone and looks natural on her,” says Marilyn Aase, education and sales director at Simonson’s Salon and Day Spa, located in Anoka, Elk River, Maple Grove, and Plymouth.

Cross’s co-stars Eva Longoria and Teri Hatcher earn high praise for their dedication to deep brunette shades that look consistently healthy. “Both Eva and Teri have classic, shiny dark tones,” says Brian Graham, owner of Brian Graham Salon in Minneapolis.

And the leap to the big screen has only increased the allure of Jennifer Aniston’s perfectly highlighted hair: Her conservative mix of gold and honey tones is a constant request. “People always want Jennifer Aniston’s hair because it’s bright and healthy looking and has such a beautiful base color,” says Karen Nace, director of education for Nexxus Beauty Products in Santa Barbara, California.
