Tucked inside a tiny Dinkytown alcove, Covered’s sparse industrial space, complete with raised ceilings, natural wood floors, and Swiss-designed steel clothing racks, allows the tony threads to be the candy. Covered is the first nonconsignment women’s store in Dinkytown in years, and owner and buyer Stacy Larson saw that with the area’s younger demographic and foot traffic, it was the perfect spot for her high-end jean boutique.
“I am obviously denim obsessed,” she says, motioning behind her to the neatly stacked wall of dungarees from Joes, Taverniti So, J Brand, and Serfontaine.
Plus, in a season where proportions are paramount, Larson rounds out the selection with longer, looser fitting tops by Yumi Kim, clingy tees by Smashing Grandpa, slouchy leather bags by J. J. Winters and Moni Moni, and delicate gold and silver artisan-made jewelry by celeb favorite Gorjana. Larson stocks merchandise at a variety of prices and encourages her customers to invest in the higher-priced denim to mix with less expensive tops. 402 14th Ave. SE, Mpls., 612-378-4776.
What's To Love: * Swanky party frocks, leggings, and chunky knits are a few of the things Larson has up her designer sleeves for fall. Don’t let the coed-crammed streets deter you—this store has nothing to do with age. * The emphasis is on accessible fashion. With more than eight styles, including the überslim peg-leg, straight pencil cut and the slightly flared cigarette, there’s no need to be an Amazonian supermodel to slip your pins into these skinny jeans. * Dressing rooms come armed with “inspiration boards” plastered with cutouts from the latest fashion and celeb magazines to help guide the faint of fashion heart. |
