Ivy Men’s + Design

Trendsetter and stylemaker Ini Iyamba has done it again: opened a sleek, stylish store that elevates fashion in the Twin Cities. Building on the success of Ivy, his women’s boutique in Calhoun Square, Iyamba recently launched his new concept, Ivy Men’s + Design (1220 Glenwood Ave., Mpls., 612-377-4319). It’s located west of International Market Square on a  bustling thoroughfare not typically associated with fashion design—though it’s a magnet for the best in interior design. Iyamba is tapping that momentum by including home décor and interior design services in his store.

The shop features a well-edited collection, with many imports exclusive to Ivy. Sexy furnishings set off the gorgeous, well-arranged threads. Store manager and interior designer Maria Walker’s talent is evident throughout the store. Gray velvet chaise longues, faux-python–topped tables, a neon green display wall, and minimal clothing racks create an enticing shopping experience.

Off-the-rack and bespoke suiting are among the store’s specialties. Collaborating with a haberdasher in Philadelphia, Iyamba designed the collection, which features the classics with a twist—slightly flared legs, slimmer-cut shirts with double darts and longer arms—all creating a more fitted look. The nearly 100 percent handmade garments speak to fashion-forward men looking for suits priced at $800 and up.

Lines such as Dulce de Leche from Latin America, Frankie Morello from Milan, and Maharishi from London add distinctive silhouettes and detailing that take a T-shirt from everyday to hot Friday nights. Other standouts, including the E-Label shirts, made from vintage material and surplus, and A & G cashmere and jewelry, create a look that’s both hip and refined, just like the stylish men who wear them.
