Josh and Rachel Berger of Daub & Bauble![]() Photo by Dan Seipp
Building on an Idea: “It started when we were building our house,” says Rachel. “We wanted products that were an extension of our home, not brands on display and design as an afterthought.” This idea, paired with their desire to manage their own business (Rachel has a degree in entrepreneurship) inspired the Bergers to develop a home and body line they’d be proud to exhibit in their own kitchen. What’s Inside: Daub & Bauble launched in 2007 with three basics–hand wash, hand lotion, and dish detergent–each available in three luscious scents: Tarocco Orange & Clove, Mission Fig & Thyme, and Sorrento Lemon & Ginger. Plant-derived ingredients such as aloe vera, shea butter, grape seed oil, avocado oil, and vitamin E work together naturally to moisturize, cleanse, and protect skin. Design Matters: After researching local and national design firms, the Bergers selected Minneapolis–based Wink (past projects include products for Target, Macy’s, and Express) to create innovative packaging designs based on fragrance. “We knew we wanted to focus on the decoration of the bottle,” says Josh. “We sat down and discussed our vision, and Wink ran with it.” Three’s Company: Three limited-edition patterns ranging from retro throwback to contemporary-modern to classic toile—motifs that coordinate with diverse interior design trends and appeal to a wide consumer demographic—were developed for each fragrance. Word Travels: Daub & Bauble is currently in 250 stores in the United States, and the Bergers just signed on with distributors in Canada and Denmark. Boutique owners weren’t the only ones to take note–in its first year, Daub & Bauble was featured in such publications as InStyle, Food & Wine, and Nylon. Stay Tuned: The Bergers keep things fresh by launching a fourth fragrance (a delicious blend of roasted cacao beans and cardamom called Arriba Cacao & Spice), plus an all-purpose surface cleanser later this month. Find Daub & Bauble at Bachman’s, Corazon, Garden of Eden, Patina, and other local retailers. $8–$10.
