Marni Bumsted and Jane Dailey![]() Photo by John Wagner
Who: Marni Bumsted and Jane Dailey, local creators of Hollywood Fashion Tape, the must-have accessory for everyone who wants to feel—and look—put together. And, of course, it’s ideal for avoiding the potential—and dreaded—wardrobe malfunction. Stick-to-it-iveness: “Initially, we thought our demographic would be ages eighteen to thirty-five, but it’s really more like thirteen to seventy-five,” Bumsted says. “[Our product] helps people feel more confident and comfortable in everyday life, and that’s a huge thing. It empowers people. You can be more modest or more low-cut. It goes to both extremes.” Sticky Sweet: Hollywood Fashion Tape got a PR push in August 2002 when it was picked up by the popular website Dailycandy.com. “I got to work that day—not knowing of the mention—thinking I’d process [the typical] twenty online orders,” Dailey says. “I started scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. I thought the computer was broken, and then the phone started ringing off the hook,” she adds. “Marni was out of town, so I had her mom and grandma addressing envelopes!” Starstuck: “Lots of stars use our tape,” Bumsted says. “When we were in LA for the pre-Golden Globes, we were fortunate to get it to Teri Hatcher and Debra Messing. We’re also sold in such trendy boutiques as Kitson and Henri Bendel, as well as Colette in Paris.” The tape is also backstage for last-minute fixes at the Oscars. No-Slip Grip: According to the Macquarie Dictionary in Australia, the brand name is also the word for double-sided tape used to tailor or hold clothing in place. Staying Power: “The term wardrobe malfunction has not hurt us,” Bumsted says. “It’s what we prevent.” Joining the women’s current products—Wedding Apparel Tape, Glamorous Gown, and Red Carpet Assortment—the Bodacious Breasts line will launch in 2007. The collection includes tape-up bras, silicone enhancers, nipple concealers, and more. Available at Brides of France, Len Druskin, Ensemble, and Epitome and at hollywoodfashiontape.com, or by calling 763-595-7887.
