Barron chair in Moda petal, $749
The arrival of the annual Room & Board catalog—and subsequent remerchandising of R&B stores—creates as much buzz for loyal customers and mindful magazine editors as an A-list fashion designer’s runway show. The silhouettes, the fabrics, the inspiration.
The 320-page 2006 catalog just hit mailboxes and includes such variety as the sexy curves of the Camelot, a Danish modern style console table, to the very simple and clean lines of a heavy plank-style Cordova coffee table. Then there’s the pretty, almost Grandma-style Barron chair (dressed beautifully in a chic Moda petal print) and the mid-century modern Wegner Shell chair with leather detailing. The Edina flagship store is now “set” with more than twenty-five percent more new chairs, tables, sofas, lamps, pillows, and bed linens. “We’re offering more furniture that fits and functions in a variety of spaces,” says Marilyn Stevens, Room & Board’s furniture merchandise manager.
The 2005 expansion of Room & Board to SoHo and San Francisco has also helped raise awareness of the TC–based retailer in the national media. Keep your eyes peeled for R&B merch on the pages of Dwell, Elle Décor, and the modern-living bible, Metropolitan Home. All showcase the modern, urban style that blends the best in vintage and recent design of the twenty-first century, a décor style that only continues to gain momentum.
