Highways 61 Revisited

Superguide to Minnesota's North Shore and Great River Roads.

April 2006

Minnesota’s two great road trips are undoubtedly Lake Superior’s North Shore and the Mississippi’s Great River Road. They are treasure troves of scenery, recreation, and charming small towns with great lodging and dining. Unfortunately, in most guidebooks, they are poorly chronicled—especially the Great River Road, for which even basic tourist information can be a challenge to obtain. So this year we decided to go in-depth on Minnesota’s two essential recreationways in a linear, map-based format geared to travelers on the road. Our recommendations—all road-tested by the Mpls.St.Paul travel staff in late 2005 and early ’06—are presented in the order in which they appear on the road, plus with all the essential contact information for advance planners. We hope this will prove a valuable resource for years to come.
