Where: Schroeder

Why: Architecture buffs can see North Shore residences designed by celebrated architect Edwin Lundie during the third annual Lundie Cabin Tour on July 15 (RSVP to 218-663-7706). A $150 partially tax-deductible donation to the Schroeder Area Historical Society is required.

How: About eighty miles north of Duluth on Highway 61. A tour bus leaves at 1 p.m. from the Cross River Heritage Center (7932 W. Hwy. 61).

Stay: The Lundie-designed Lutsen lodge (800-258-8736) has the same Scandinavian detailing, timber frames, and massive stone fireplaces seen on the tour. Rates range from $89 to $139 (weekend two-night minimum).

Eat: The tour ends with music and a picnic of wine, beer, and locally made brats at one of the Lundie cabins.

Pack: A copy of The Architecture of Edwin Lundie by Dale Mulfinger.

P.S.: After a day on the bus, stretch your legs at Temperance River State Park or on the Superior Hiking Trail.
