Ask Heidi | Escort Cards

You asked: Are escort cards a requirement if we’re having a sit-down dinner?

Heidi says: It really depends on the formality of your reception and the tone you want to achieve. Protocol dictates that escort cards are expected at a formal, multi-course dinner. When you tell your guests where they’re sitting, you’re not being bossy—you’re actually creating a more socially relaxed environment by eliminating their need to ‘hunt’ for a table. Of course, another way to achieve this is by having a list of some kind posted near the doors to your reception site (you’ll save a bundle over traditional cards printed with each guest’s name). Whatever you choose, get creative, even if it’s simply incorporating your color scheme into the cards.
