Fashion Editor Laura Stephans on the top ten looks for 2008.
By Laura Stephans
Laura Stephans, prominent local fashion editor and the creative mind behind the runway fashion show at the 2007 and 2008 Bridal Party wedding shows, distills the hottest looks arriving in bridal boutiques in the Twin Cities this season.
1 Trumpet shape, fit to the body until it flares below the hip, is the hottest silhouette.
2 Ball-gown skirts, pickup skirts, and layered flounce are all giving the A-line a run for its money.
3 Strapless is still strong, but there's a new emphasis at the shoulders—straps, short sleeves, or off-the-shoulder neckline treatments.
4 Matte satin and lace continue to be classic, but brides will also see sheer organdy, net, and tulle.
5 Designers are using decorative, dramatic back detailing.
6 Floral motifs on gowns are prevalent, including pin-on fabric flowers.
7 Beading, pleating, ruching, and draping are popular gown details.
8 When used, veils tend to be very short or very long, but . . .
9 . . . individual sparkly hair sticks in loosely styled coifs are becoming a more desired choice.
10 Brides have more shoe choices than ever—from flats to the highest of heels—with options available at all price points.
