Many stylish couples are seizing the opportunity to add personality to the table settings at their receptions by including bolder, more dramatic colors; textures; and hints of metallic. Some are even opting for a blend of patterns and colors by using mix-and-match china patterns and glassware to give their receptions an eclectic, bohemian feel. “[This trend] first started appearing with the ‘shabby chic’ movement,” says Shereé Bochenek of Après Party and Tent Rental.“It shows a lot more effort and a lot more of a designer’s touch.”

So how do you create your perfect style—whether bold or bohemian—especially if you’re no Martha Stewart? Bochenek recommends starting in the store’s show room. “It’s always a place for inspiration,” she says. “Our sales people are wonderfully talented. They understand the concept of complementing dinner and glassware without having to match everything together.”

Food stations offer even more opportunity for creativity. “I am in favor of every station having the kind of plating that reflects the theme of that station,” says Bochenek. For example, an Asian-inspired station could use modern, square plates and clean-lined glassware. For plated service, Bochenek recommends alternating charger plates or using a solid-colored dinner plate with a coordinating, but patterned, salad plate.
