60 Unity Tree
Lana Nofziger and her fiancé, Spencer Johnson, got married in a historic Ohio village last May. The Twin Cities couple was disappointed to learn that their ceremony site didn’t allow candles—including traditional unity candles. Their solution? “Instead of a unity candle, we had a small tree in a flower pot,” says Lana. “The mothers of the bride and groom each added dirt from their respective homes to the tree, symbolizing our foundation. Then Spencer and I each added water to the tree, symbolizing nurturance. We plan to plant the tree at our first home.” Lana’s idea was selected as winner of the Aisle File idea-of-the-month for April 2008.
