What trends are you seeing for Groom’s Dinners?
It’s often called the Rehearsal Dinner, and more and more, it’s the couple footing the bill and organizing it. Beyond the name, we’re seeing a big trend toward making it a more casual event. I had a couple that went bowling, for example, and another had a barbecue with tiki torches. It’s just more fun and laid back.

When is the dinner held?
Traditionally, it’s the night before the wedding, but we’re seeing some people change it to a Thursday night if the wedding is Saturday, so guests won’t be up too late before the big day. Or, they make it a rehearsal brunch the day of the wedding, if they’re getting married in the evening.

Who’s invited?
The wedding party and other immediate family, usually, but many people are including out-of-town guests. They use the opportunity to give guests welcome baskets with maps of the city and activity suggestions.

What are some tips for making the event special?
Choose a place that means something to [you as a] couple, like maybe a first-date spot or a place [you] go all the time. Even if it’s a laid-back event, it should still feel special, and location can provide that feeling.
